As of late 2019, Minecraft: Java & Bedrock Edition for Mac has managed on Mac and other platforms to collectively be sold in over 176 million copies, surpassing even the legendary Tetris. Because of its focus on simplicity, discovery, randomized environments, freedom of choice, and ability to host incredibly large creations imagined by its players, after its release on Mac in 2011 the game very quickly became not only one of the landmark titles that influenced development of many future games, but also the commercially most successful video game of all time.
